Which buttons on your TV remote work?
Open this page in your TV's own browser, start the test and press the buttons one by one. Every button that reaches the TV lights up, so a dead button stands out among the ones that work.

Quick answer
The TV Remote Button Test runs in your TV's browser and lights up every button the TV receives from the remote, with a count for each press. A button that lights up works. A button that never lights up, while the others do, may be broken, but the TV can also keep some buttons for itself: Samsung says the color and playback buttons cannot work in its TV browser. For those buttons, the phone camera test in our remote not working guide is the better check.
What your result means
The remote works and the TV receives it. If the TV still ignores the remote in normal use, the cause is somewhere else.
That button may be stuck, dirty or broken. Our guide shows what to do when only some buttons work.
Start with fresh batteries, then pair the remote again. The remote not working guide goes through it step by step.
Expected. Samsung says these buttons cannot work in its TV browser, so this test cannot see them there. Use the phone camera test instead.

What this test can and cannot tell you
Measured directly. The TV received that button and passed it on to this page, so the button works.
Not proof of a fault. A TV can keep buttons for itself before they reach a web page. Samsung says the color and playback buttons cannot work in its TV browser, and Android TV and Google TV never pass the Home or Assistant button on to apps. Check those buttons with the phone camera test.
Not part of the test. These buttons control the TV itself, so the test has no box for them. If one does reach the page, it shows up under Other buttons.
Measured directly. LG's pointer moves and clicks like a mouse in web apps, so the pointer boxes show whether it moves, clicks and scrolls.
Cannot run the test. Some TVs have no browser at all. Then the phone camera test is the way to check the remote.
Questions people ask
How do I test the buttons on my TV remote?
Open this page in the TV's own browser, press Start the button test, then press the buttons one at a time. Every button the TV receives lights up with a count. To stop, press Back twice, or wait 30 seconds without pressing anything.
Why does a button not light up?
Either the button does not work, or the TV keeps it for itself. Samsung says the color and playback buttons cannot work in its TV browser, so on a Samsung they never light up here. If a button that normally reaches web pages, like an arrow or OK, stays dark while the others light up, that button is the likely problem.
Can I test my remote with my phone instead?
Yes, for infrared remotes. Point the remote at your phone's camera and press a button: a flashing light on the screen means the remote is sending. Our sister app TV Remote has a camera tester for this. Bluetooth remotes often do not show up on a camera.
My remote does not work at all. How do I open this page?
Then the test cannot help yet. Start with fresh batteries and pairing the remote again, which our remote not working guide explains for Samsung, LG, Sony and Google TV. The guide also shows how to use the TV without a remote in the meantime.
