Changelog

What we have shipped, newest first.

TV Test has not launched publicly yet. Until it does, this page records what has been built rather than what has been released. The first public release will be marked clearly when it happens.

  • TV Internet Speed Test: measures the real download speed reaching the television, then says whether it is enough for 4K, HDR or Full HD on each major service. Stops early on a slow connection rather than making you wait.
  • What TV Do I Have: identifies the platform behind your set, which app store it uses, and roughly which generation it belongs to. It also says plainly that no website can read your exact model number.
  • Overscan and Screen Fit: five nested frames reveal whether your TV is quietly cropping the edges of the picture, and by how much, with the setting to change on every major brand.
  • TV Speaker Test: left and right channel tones, a full 20 Hz to 20 kHz sweep with a live frequency readout, and a bass-only sweep. All generated in the browser, nothing to download.
  • An All Tests page collecting everything in one place.
  • American spelling throughout, matching the rest of our sites.

  • TV Capability Test: a single check that reads your screen resolution, HDR signalling, color gamut, video and audio codec support, copy protection and audio output, then explains each result in plain language.
  • Every result says how much to trust it. Values we measured directly are marked as such, values the device merely claims are flagged as reported, and things a browser genuinely cannot see are shown as unknown with an explanation of why.
  • A "what this can and cannot tell you" panel on every test, covering the things no web page can measure - HDR brightness in nits, true panel refresh rate, and Widevine security level.
  • Remote control navigation. On a TV the site switches to a large, high contrast layout you can move around with the arrow keys on your remote, with a clearly visible yellow focus ring.
  • Copy your results as plain text, so you can paste them into a support request or a listing when selling a TV.
  • The whole site works without JavaScript, so the explanations stay readable even if the interactive test cannot run.
